Special Debrief Session on Environmental Rehabilitation in Asia and Symposium on Environmental and Life Science Held

Okayama University’s Graduate School of Environmental and Life Science held a debrief session of the project researches on “Environmental Rehabilitation in Asia” on January 23 and the International Symposium on Environmental and Life Science on January 24. In addition featuring to lecturers invited from abroad to speak, both included presentations and debates in English by graduate school students, which developed into lively discussions.

At the debrief session, nine graduate students in the Environmental and Life Science Master’s Course gave presentations in English. At the symposium, “flash talks” (brief introductions in English to their research) were given by 25 Doctor’s Course students who had received Research Grant for Encouragement of Students. This was followed by a poster session, with researchers introducing their work on posters and answering questions. The symposium attracted a good crowd of more than 100 people, including undergraduate students, and lively discussions in English unfolded among researchers from different fields of specialization.

The Academic Research Committee of the Graduate School of Environmental and Life Science judged the presentations and gave the Best Presentation Award to three Doctor’s Course students, Ms. Thi Thuy Hang NGUYEN, Ms. Chooi Mei MAH and Ms. Ngoc Tuong Van HOANG, in their second, third and second years, respectively.

Because one of the guiding principles of the Graduate School of Environmental and Life Science has been to promote fusion of different fields, and to cultivate human resources with advanced specialized abilities and an international outlook as part of the Japanese government’s Top Global University Project, these kinds of efforts will continue in the coming year as well.
